I’ve had single, married, divorced, and widowed clients all sit on my couch with something in common. They feel lonely. To take it one step further, they’ve told me they don’t talk about it because they feel they are the only one.
I’ve lost count of number of times I’ve looked at a tearful client and told them they would be shocked by how many people come into my office and tell me the exact same thing. And the relief simply in knowing they are not alone in feeling alone feels so tangible in the room.
Hear this today friends, you’re not alone in feeling alone.
So if you’re feeling lonely today, check on your people. The ones you know are feeling alone and the ones you assume aren’t, because chances are they feel it too. And there’s something sweet in knowing you’re not alone in feeling lonely. Maybe that’s our first step to feeling a little less lonely.
If this is something you struggle with, reach out to a licensed therapist who can help you navigate these feelings.
